| Fiestas |
| Fiestas are celebrated at the time of the town's patron saint's day. We managed to catch a couple of them on the way to Mexico City. |
| The stars of this scene were supposed to stay completely still as if they were statues – quite difficult on the back of a truck going along a rocky road. |
| There were parades with lots of dancing. |
| The firework display included several rounds of the ‘bull’. A wooden bull loaded with fireworks is carried around the streets and fireworks are released from it directly into the crowds. Unless you can find a hiding place or jump out of the way you may get burned. |
| Rockets are released directly from the hands using a lighted cigarette. |
| The dance of the old men. This involves 'old men' hobbling along then breaking into a kind of jig which gets faster and faster until they can’t dance anymore then hobbling away again. It may be a mockery of the Spaniards who the indigenous people thought aged very quickly. |
